Description
The Frontier midsize pickup returned to the Canadian market in 2022 after a two-year hiatus. The platform is a carry-over, but with all-new styling inside and out, new engine and transmission, and new features, its nearly an all-new offering. The Frontier has a rugged, old-school truck feel and comes in King Cab or Crew Cab. New for 2023 is a Midnight appearance package, and the SV Crew Cab Long Wheelbase model gets standard SV Convenience Package heated leather steering wheel, heated front seats, spray-in bedliner, Utili-trac System with two adjustable tie-down cleats, under-rail bed lighting, and more. Pro-4X models add wireless Apple CarPlay.
Performance
All Frontier models get 4WD and run with a naturally-aspirated 3.8L V6 that generates 301 hp and 281 lb-ft of torque. It is mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission and provided linear power deliver free of turbo lag. On-road ride quality is comfortable. The Pro-4X off-road trim adds Bilstein shocks, three skid plates, all-terrain tires, and an electronic locking rear differential.
Practicality
Standard safety features include blind spot monitor, front collision mitigation, adaptive cruise, rear auto braking and LED lights with auto high beam. The King Cab has small, rear-hinged back doors and holds four occupants, while the Crew Cab has four full-sized doors and five seats. The King Cab has a six-foot bed, while Crew Cabs have either six-foot or five-foot beds. Max towing capacity is 6,490 lbs, and payload tops out at 1,430 lbs both these figures are for King Cab models.
