Boyer Family Charitable Fund donates $20,000

The Boyer Family Charitable Fund was created by the Boyer Family to help support the many communities we've lived and worked in for the past 40 years. To kick off 2021 the Boyer Family donated $20,000 to 7 charities across the Durham, Kawartha and Northumberland regions.

The Boyer Family Charitable Fund provided a grant of $2,000 through the Community Foundation of Greater Peterborough in support of the BGCKL children & youth. Boyer Chevrolet and the Boys & Girls Club of Kawartha Lakes have an ongoing relationship spanning back to 2008. We’ve paired up for various events and initiatives over the years including the Annual Jeff Beukeboom Golf Tournament, food & toy drives, vehicle sponsorships and more. The BGCKL do so much for the children and families of our community here in Lindsay and we knew right away they would be a recipient of this year’s Boyer Family Fund donations.

The Boyer Family Charitable Fund provided a donation of $5,000 to The Quinte Health Care North Hastings Hospital in Bancroft. "This donation will go towards the area of greatest need - the Boyer Family has given us that leeway which is wonderful." says Kim Bishop. When asked how donations and community funding has been effected by the COVID pandemic, Kim says "the committee made a conscious decision to take a step back from a big amount of community fundraising. We wanted to be sensitive to the many needs in the community over the last year." She continues, "that said, the hospital spent an enormous amount of funds on fighting the pandemic by purchasing necessary PPE, upgrading some equipment, increasing staffing...etc." The ongoing fight against COVID-19 was one of the reasons we at Boyer chose the North Hastings hospital as one of our donation recipients this year. The Bancroft community has done such a great job at following protocols and adapting to the many changes to daily life this past year, and the Boyer Family is very proud to support their efforts. "There are a lot of needs and we are grateful to receive this donation to help us provide life saving equipment in our hospital" says Kim.

Brandon Boyer and Joe Hotrum of Boyer Chevrolet Lindsay visited Ross Memorial Hospital to support exceptional care with a gift of $2,000 from the Boyer Family Charitable Fund. The donation will help the community purchase a new CT scanner with advanced capabilities.

Computerized Tomography (CT) scanning combines a series of images taken from various angles to create cross-sectional views of a patient’s bones, blood vessels and soft tissues. The Ross Memorial’s CT scanner allows radiologists to confidently diagnose disease and injuries, to provide precise direction for surgeries, and to guide cancer treatments.

At the Ross, the CT team conducts more than 12,000 scans every year.

“Supporting the community in which we operate has always been a top priority for my family,” said Brandon Boyer. “We are so lucky to have such a great hospital right here in Lindsay, so we’re happy to support in any way we can!”

“Our local business leaders keep our community strong in so many ways,” said Erin Coons. “This gift from the Boyer Family Charitable Fund will impact patients of all ages, and help keep the best CT imaging right here at home.”

$2,500 was donated by the Boyer Family Chariable Fund to United Way of Durham Region. The Boyer Family through our Michael Boyer Chevrolet Cadillac Buick GMC dealership in Pickering have been proud supporters of the United Way of Durham Region for years and were humbled to recieve the Community Builder Partner Award for 2016. To further assist the community during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic The United Way of Durham Region partnered with United Way Centraide Canada and the Government of Canada to deliver the Government of Canada’s Emergency Community Support Fund (ECSF) in Durham Region.

The North Kawartha Food Bank Inc. assists in providing food and basic hygiene products to persons in need living within the boundaries of North Kawartha Township. In December 2020 the need for this type of assistance sky rocketed after a devastating fire destroyed the local grocery store in Apsley - the only one within a 45 minute drive. The Boyer Family Charitable Fund donated 3,000 to The North Kawartha Food Bank Inc., in part to help offset the costs of the community support after the fire.

In response to the devestating grocery store fire in Apsley, The Boyer Family teamed up with the local Community Care team to meet the needs of the community and limit the risk of food insecurity. Together, Boyer and Community Care launched the North Kawartha Grocery Program to offer free grocery deliviers to the Apsley community twice a week. You read more about that program here. To further support the many ways Community Care servers the community, the Boyer Family Charitable Fund donated $3,000 to Apsley Community Care office.

This donation will be put directly towards the Community Care's Be A Lifeline campaign, which our Grocery Program is a small part of. The Be A Lifeline campaign has been incredibly successful, generating a response that the organization has never seen. These funds will be used for transportation related to food security for the entire community until there is a new grocery store with food on the shelves and doors open.

The Boyer Family Charitable Fund has donated of $2,500 to Northumberland Fare Share Food Bank. The Northumberland Fare Share Food Bank is dedicated to serving Cobourg and Port Hope, by collecting and distributing food and other necessities to individuals and families in need within our community. Food insecurity heightened during the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and the team at the Fare Share Food Bank stepped up and met the needs of our community! We are proud to support them in their ongoing efforts.

All of us at Boyer's thank the hardworking organizers and employees that do so much for our communities every day!
